GAME BLOG/NEWS

ARS.COM Beavers are 2006 C League tier 2 Champions after defeating the Hellbenders 5 -2. The Hellbenders only lost 2 games all season both to us.

Beavers vs. Griffins

Well this game started very well with a 2 - 0 lead, then penalties bit us again and before we knew it we were tied 2 -2. Then several really stupid moves by me and suddenly it was 6 - 4 and we could not catch up. All in all though it was not a badly played game they just took advantage of several flubs and made them count.

Beavers vs. Pipers

It looked like we were going to have to go to another shoot-out but 2 goals at the end sealed the victory for us with Todd getting another hat trick. Not much else special about this game except that I played forward and got an assist (and a penalty)

Beavers vs. Hellbenders

This was the game of the season for us. The Hellbenders had been undefeated up until this game. It took another shootout for us to win it but a win is a win, We would have won in regulation but for an unfortunate penalty  by yours truly allowing  them a two man advantage and the tying goal. Once again Jon and Todd came through with shootout goals and Joe came up with another spectacular game between the pipes. Everyone played very well with some good passing and great defence

Beavers vs. Aeros

Things clicked right from the opening face-off as Don grabbed the puck, walked in all alone and scored. We played a good defensive game with just a few lapses which caused some unnecessary goals. Joe played extremely well. We went into an overtime shootout and after 11 shooters we finally came away with a goal and the win.

Beavers vs. Hurricanes

This game makes up for the earlier loss to the Hurricanes. Todd and Fred were a force out there with each scoring a hat trick. Every one else also did very well and contributed on both offence and defence. The refs did a very good job calling penalties and kept the game in check. Well played game.

Beavers vs. Short Bus

Not much to say about this game, six regular did not show up even though we had 10 players we were still out manned and badly out skated. We played a very bad game on defence and allowed way to many 2 on 1's and breakaways. We need to do better. We also fell a little short getting quality shots on goal, we should have won  this game and really need to make it up now.

Beavers vs. Chiefs

A well played and hard fought game all around. Our passing was better then usual and our defence played a more conservative game but still managed two of the four goals. We managed to kill three penalties and score on one power play.

Beavers vs. Pipers Tavern

This was a game we were supposed to win and luckily we did. It was a lot closer then it should have been as we let our defence get a little too aggressive and allowed way too many odd man rushes that paid dividends for Pipers.

Beavers vs. Ericsson

One of our worst games yet, we could not stay out of the penalty box and were down 2 men at least twice, this resulted in only 12 shots on net. That is not enough to win a game. They have a young team and once again our passing let us down and we ran out of gas in the third period. We definitely need to improve in several areas including passing, getting the puck out of our zone and increasing number of shots on net.

Beavervs. Hellbender

This is one of the better teams in the league bur we held our own and could have easily won it but for a late goal in the third period that we could not answer. We were one player away from winning this one but could not pull it off. New player Todd did OK getting one goal and 2 penalties, one which was very lame and should not have been called. I am looking forward to having most of the team back next week. Our new sweaters finally arrived and look good, miss the orange though.

Beavers vs. Hurricanes

Well there is no nice way to say this, we sucked last night and then things got out of control. They scored in the first minute of play on a fluky goal and we just never got it together, plus their goalie made some good saves and kept us off the scoreboard despite a ton of shots. Penalties took their toll on us again and  several skirmishes took place near the end of the game. This was a game we should have won. We outplayed them, out shot them and generally spent more time in their end  but we could not finish and hit the back of the twine. They made more of their opportunities and got some lucky goals.

Beavers vs. Griffins

The Griffins will probably be the team to beat this season. They are a young skilled and quick skating team. We kept up with them through 2 periods and then a little fatigue set in and we started making mistakes. Joe kept us in the game with several good saves on breakaways. We seemed to have problems generating good offence and our passing was pretty bad. The refs were good tonight letting us play out the game and stepping in when needed. Jim continues his scoring streak getting at least 1 point in all 3 games he has played. We get the opportunity to play the Griffins again near the end of the season.

August 20, 2006
Beavers vs. ShortBus

ShortBus came into the game 0 -2 and are a really new and inexperienced team. We thought we would cake walk through this but when the game went into the third period tied 1-1 we got desperate. We scored about 4 minutes in the third period and with less the 3 minutes to play and with only a 1 goal margin we got a break and scored  at 2:35, 2:14, 1:15 and 0:42 of the third period to score 4 goals in less then 2 minutes. Jim Benton scored two of those four goals to give him a natural Hat Trick, great going Jim. We should have had an easier time but we had several players in this game who had missed the first two games and we were a little off kilter. We will not underestimate them again.

August 13, 2006
Beavers vs. Chiefs

Game number 2 had us playing a little short with only 9 skaters against last seasons lower tier champion Chiefs. Once again we ran into a little penalty trouble although this time the Chiefs kept pace with us with 4 penalties each. The game got a little chippy in the second period but it eased off by the third and we settled down to get two more goals to seal the deal.

August 6, 2006
Beavers vs. AleHouse

Our first game of the season was a barnburner and ended up tied after 3. Joe held his own in the shoot-out stopping 2 of 3 giving Jon and Hans the opportunity to win it for us. We have 4 new players, including Joe, playing in their first game for us and they held their own as well. As usual we seemed to find the ire of the refs as we received 5 minor penalties to the Alehouse's 1. A good win against an upper tier opponent.
